Day 3: Taitung --> Hualien

Today, we travelled along the scenic East Coast en route to Hualien. It was a fine sunny day so we had great views of the Pacific Ocean and various rock formations (you know, the geog stuff - caves and pillars, etc.) along the coastline.

A propeller plane! Or issit a glider...

We passed by the Tropic of Cancer along the way. Our guide joked about a mainland tourist who asked why he couldn't see the line since it's supposed to be the 北回归线.

We reached Hualien before lunch and made our way to the majestic Taroko Gorge. More rocks, but real pretty ones.

It was a great day away from the buzz of the city, with just amazing land- and sea-scapes, fresh air (chilly winds too!), and the feeling of being embraced by Mother Nature. Singapore has far too little of those to offer, which is a real pity. And it's pathetic how those East Coast flats can fetch such high prices when you can buy a nice East Coast cottage by the Pacific Ocean with that kind of money here.
