Today we made a trip to Fokuangshan, the largest Buddhist monastery, and the centre of Buddhist scholarship in Taiwan. Home to an iconic 36m golden Buddha Amitabha statue, it offers breathtaking views from its position on the lush rolling hills.

After lunch, we took a long coach ride to Taitung, where we settled in the 5-star Formosa Naruwan Hotel. The much touted hot spring facilities turned out to be just a jacuzzi with warm water...
